Review: Surrogates
Jonathan Mostow (U571, Terminator 3) brings us another big action film, this time with Bruce Willis in the lead role. The action may be big, but is there any substance in the rest of the film?
Trailer: Zombieland
Early reviews are that it ticks all the right boxes and the trailer certainly has it looking good
Coming Soon: Stargate Universe
I have to say, even as a big Stargate fan, the shows have been getting a bit stale over the last 2 or 3 years. So news of a new Stargate show didn’t exactly have me rushing for the TV guide to see when it was starting. Well, it starts 2nd October (US) and 6th I believe in the UK. I also have to admit that as more info has come out and the trailers have appeared I’ve started to look forward to it a bit more. Anyway, here is a trailer and an interview with Robert Carlyle.
Review: Adventureland
Greg Mottola has previous brought us the Rogan/Goldberg penned Superbad a gross out teen movie similar in content and theme to American Pie. Adventureland is another teen movie but much more personal and much more sweet than gross out. Starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kirsten Stewart in a 1987 set coming of age drama this has a much more indie style feel. How does Mottola go with his own project?

Review: District 9
Peter Jackson Presents (which gets seemingly more header space than the director Neill Blomkamp or the actors) District 9, a sci-fi film about aliens whose ship stopped over Johannesburg and are now living in slums. Based upon Blomkamps short ‘Alive In Joburg’ (linked later in review), the film is a 2hr actioner with brains. Getting much praise from critics and the general public alike, what is my take on D9? Read on only if you’re human …..
Trailer for Scorsese’s Shutter Island
Mark Ruffalo , Leonardo DiCaprio team up in this new Scorsese flick as a pair of U.S. Marshals who embark onto an island off the coast of Massachusetts to search for an escaped mental patient, uncovering a web of deception along the way as they battle the forces of nature and a prison riot in this highly anticipated and talked about Scorsese film. No doubt once again the chemistry is in place to make this a classic as plenty of Oscar buzz starts flying around.
Shutter Island is out later this year.
